Rise Hybrid Private Academy Physical Education Substitution Policy Purpose:
This policy outlines the conditions under which students at Rise Hybrid Private Academy may substitute their required Physical Education (PE) credits with participation in a sport, ensuring that the substitution aligns with the school’s educational goals and state requirements.

Scope:
This policy applies to all students enrolled at Rise Hybrid Private Academy from Kindergarten through 12th grade who are required to complete physical education as part of their curriculum.
Policy Statement:
-
K-5 Physical Education Requirement:
-
All students in grades K-5 are required to participate in a minimum of 1 hour of physical education per week.
-
Participation in an organized sport can fulfill this requirement if the sport provides at least 1 hour of physical activity per week, meeting the educational objectives of the PE curriculum.
-
-
6-12 Physical Education Substitution:
-
Students in grades 6-12 who participate in an approved sport are eligible to apply for a substitution of their required PE credits.
-
Approved sports include those that are organized, supervised, and involve regular practice and competition, either through the school, a community organization, or a recognized sports league.
-
-
Substitution Criteria:
-
The sport must provide a level of physical activity that is equivalent to the physical education curriculum offered by the school.
-
Students must participate in the sport for the entire season to qualify for a substitution. Partial participation will not fulfill the requirement.
-
-
Application Process:
-
Students or their guardians must submit a “PE Substitution Request Form” to the school’s administration before the start of the sport's season.
-
The form must include details of the sport, the organization or league, and the coach's contact information.
-
The request must be approved by the Physical Education Department and the School Administration.
-
-
Documentation and Verification:
-
Students must provide documentation of their participation in the sport, including:
-
A letter from the coach verifying the student's participation and commitment to the sport throughout the season.
-
A log of attendance or records showing regular practice and competition.
-
-
The documentation must be submitted at the end of the sport’s season for review.
-
-
Assessment and Approval:
-
The Physical Education Department will review the documentation to ensure that the student’s participation meets the educational objectives of the PE curriculum.
-
Upon approval, the student’s participation in the sport will be recorded as fulfilling the required PE credits for that academic year.
-
-
Limitations:
-
A maximum of one PE credit may be substituted through this policy per academic year.
-
This policy applies to all K-12 students, with specific guidelines for K-5 and 6-12 grade levels.
-
-
Non-Compliance:
-
If a student fails to meet the requirements outlined in this policy, they will be required to enroll in the school’s PE course to fulfill the credit requirement.
-
-
Review and Amendments:
-
This policy will be reviewed annually and may be amended as necessary to comply with state regulations and the educational objectives of Rise Hybrid Private Academy.
-
Effective Date:
This policy is effective as of August 2023
