Freshman English- College Prep English I (Introduction to American Literature)
Course Description- Students will participate in small group learning activities and analyze, produce, and examine differences in literary works. They will compare different visual and auditory messages while questioning author’s purpose. Students will extend vocabulary through study of word origins and derivatives. Students will read literature that encompasses interpretation of non-fiction texts as well as literature from different cultures and eras. Students will collect information to create a research product and will write to persuade, interpret, analyze, and explain.
Sophomore English- College Prep English II (Literary Works & Composition)
Course Description- Students will participate in small group learning activities and analyze, produce, and examine differences in literary works. Students will read literature that encompasses interpretation of non-fiction texts as well as literature from different cultures and eras. Junior English- College Prep English III (Literary Works, Composition, Technical Writing)
Course Description- Students will participate in small group learning activities and analyze, produce, and examine differences in literary works. They will compare different visual and auditory messages while questioning author’s purpose. Students will extend vocabulary through study of word origins and derivatives. Students will learn oral communication skills needed in the workplace such as impromptu speaking, group problem-solving strategies and formal presentations. Students will use the writing process to create essays, resumes and evaluations. Students will focus on composing and delivering an argument. Additionally, students will review grammar, composition, syntax, and vocabulary. Using the writing process, students will write creatively and analytically, and compose a documented research paper. Students will read literature that encompasses interpretation of non-fiction texts as well as literature from different cultures and eras. Students will collect information to create a research product and will write to persuade, interpret, analyze, and explain.
